Embark on a massive 3-day journey from the majestic caves of Phong Nha all the way to Hoi An. Ride the remote West Ho Chi Minh Trail, explore old-growth jungles, visit Vietnam War relics in Khe Sanh and the DMZ, and conquer the Hai Van Pass.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Phong Nha to Khe Sanh

We start our tour at the Phong Nha village and will ride to Khe Sanh via the west Ho Chi Minh trail – one of our favorite stretches of road. The Ho Chi Minh trail was a legendary road of Vietnam which the Vietcong used to supply to the south during the war.
We’ll travel along the banks of the Son river to the top of the national park which is full of rice paddies, farmland and local farmers. On this journey, you’ll discover the background of Phong Nha Ke Bang national park and the West Ho Chi Minh trail – a remote spot where other tourists don’t get to go. We’ll ride the first 100 km through old growth jungle with amazing waterfalls and beautiful landscapes. A stop at Van Kieu ethnic hill tribe village will allow you to see and understand how these people can survive in the most remote place of Vietnam.
We’ll continue on and stop at another village for lunch before we ride another 100km to the south to the town of Khe Sanh. This will continue to follow the legendary Ho Chi Minh trail, through the tops of the mountain ranges and fantastic valleys with the fresh air in your face. There will be some stops at historic relics of the Vietnam war and we’ll visit the Khe Sanh compass base before we check in to a hotel in town and have a cold beer to cheers our first fantastic day of adventure.

Day 2: Khe Sanh to Hue

On the ride to Hue is most from West to East we will ride along Highway 9. On this drive we’ll pass famous Vietnamese war sites like Dakrong bridge, Rock Pile and the Doc Mieu base.
We visit the Truong Son national cemetery (the biggest cemetery in Vietnam) to pay respects to the soldier who sacrificed their life in the war. After we cross the former border between North and South Vietnam at the 17th parallel, we’ll arrive at the Vinh Moc tunnel where the villagers dug tunnels to move their village 23 meters underground to survive during the war.
We stop for lunch at Cua Viet beach where you can cool off with a swim, before driving along the coastline to arrive in Hue around 4:30pm.

Day 3: Hue to Hoi An via Hai Van pass

in the morning our first stop is fishing village and go to Nhi Ho Waterfall where you can wade in the rock pools.

Next we stop for photos at Lang Co Beach before traveling over the Hai Van Pass. Hai Van means “Sea of Clouds” and when crossing the top of the Pass you are literally surrounded by clouds on one side with stunning ocean views on the other.
